Kicking Off a Busy Summer Season!
We’re diving into a bustling month and a half with 16 events already booked for summer 2023 and more requests coming in. It’s shaping up to be an exciting start to the summer!
This is our second year creating memories for everyone who attends. As soon as last year’s event ended, I started brainstorming ways to keep our setup fresh and exciting. No one wants the same experience year after year, so I’m already planning for next year.
I ordered a comic book backdrop and found some fantastic superhero props at PBX. Our amazing graphic designer created a wonderful overlay and animation, along with a complete workflow package.
The week before the event, we confirmed setup times and decided this would be the perfect opportunity to train new staff. If they can handle a bunch of kids for three hours, they can handle any of our events—trial by fire!
I loaded and tested the booth, along with our new printer (thankfully it arrived on time), packed up the props, including our new superhero ones, and had everything ready to go. A few last-minute checklist items, and we were set.
Event Day: May 7th 2023, Madox’s Warriors Foundation Kids Dance
On Sunday morning, May 7th, 2023, we loaded the trailer and headed to Madox’s Warriors Foundation Kids Dance in St. Norbert, Manitoba. Everything went smoothly, except for Sasha following us around with those puppy dog eyes, knowing we were leaving. She always lays on the bathroom floor with the radio playing, waiting for her special treat when we go.
Setup at the event was a breeze, taking less than an hour. I listened to the incredible family who organizes this event every year in memory of their son, who passed away from a rare brain tumor. Madox’s Warriors is an amazing organization, committed to raising funds for childhood brain cancer research. I highly encourage you to read about their journey and consider donating to help find a cure.
Pre-Event Lunch
We even had time for lunch at Wayback Burgers on Pembina Hwy. The vintage diner vibe with a modern twist was a pleasant surprise. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food came quickly. We even got free mac and cheese bites! Everything was delicious, and we’ll definitely be back. Five stars for sure!
Final Preparations
After lunch, we returned to the St. Norbert Community Center to finish the last bit of setup and train our new staff.
Showtime!
When we returned to the event, we found the booth’s screen was black. My heart sank, but after a quick prayer, Bert discovered someone had plugged their equipment into the same outlet, blowing a fuse. We quickly resolved the issue and got everything back on track. We took a group picture with all the incredible volunteers and organizers, kicking off the fun!
Meet Our New Team Members
If you see Brandy and Chris at our booth, be sure to say hi! They picked up everything quickly and were fantastic with the kids. We only stayed for about half an hour, as they didn’t need us hovering. We captured some great videos and pictures of the event, which had so many fun stations for the kids.
Wrapping Up
Cleanup went smoothly with the extra help, and we were one of the last to pack up, but it was worth it. Now it’s time to prepare for our next two events on Friday.
